BANKRUPTCY COUNSELING SERVICES
Family Services, Inc. is approved to provide an instructional course in personal financial management, or credit counseling services as required under the Bankruptcy Code. *
Family Services, Inc. believes the most effective delivery of counseling and education is face-to-face sessions. Our agency has been providing financial counseling and financial literacy training in our service community since 1971. All of our counselors are certified by the National Foundation of Credit Counselors (NFCC) and licensed by the State of South Carolina for debt counseling.
The charge for pre-filing counseling (approx. 90 min.) including the completion certificate is $50.00 per individual. The charge for pre-discharge debtor education class (approx. 3 hrs.) including the completion certificate is also $50.00 per individual. This fee may be waived if you are receiving your legal services pro-bono, or if your sole source of income is disability; however, you will need to provide proof of pro-bono service or disability income.

PRE-FILING COUNSELING - STEP 1 Tuesday Afternoon Classes
Under the new Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act 2005, all individual debtors who file for bankruptcy on or after October 17, 2005 must undergo Pre-Filing Counseling within six months before they file bankruptcy and then complete a Debtor Education Counseling course in financial management after they filed for bankruptcy.
Family Services - CCCS Div. - has a team of trained, certified and SC licensed counselors. They will work with you to create a detailed financial assessment, analyze your income, assets, and liabilities, and provide you with a true picture of your financial situation. During the pre-filing session we will talk to you on all the components of budgeting and credit counseling. After completion of the course, each participant will receive a numbered certificate to verify completion of this class.
If you are receiving your legal services pro-bono, or if your sole source of income is disability, this fee may be waived; however, you will need to provide proof of pro-bono service or disability income to be eligible.

DEBTOR COUNSELING - STEP 2 Once an individual has an attorney file a bankruptcy case on their bahalf, they must complete a debtor's financial literacy class before the bankruptcy court will discharge the debts. Family Services - CCCS "Second Chance" course is a comprehensive study of all aspects of personal finances. Certificates are issued upon completion of course.
